Virginia’s two placements are opposites. A premium oceanfront amusement park in Virginia Beach reports 770 visitors a day — joint fourth-busiest in the whole record — at 40% of net, and a Shenandoah bowling alley reports 82 a day at 30%. PinPoint Vending placed both.
At a glance
| Factor | Virginia |
|---|---|
| Specialty placements on the record | 2 — Virginia Beach, Shenandoah |
| Reported traffic | 770 and 82 visitors a day |
| Shares agreed | 40% and 30% of net |
| Licence | None; the step is a dealer tax registration |
| The coastal problem | Peak season and peak humidity coincide |
| What can be ranked | Shenandoah only |
Who places cotton candy machines in Virginia?
PinPoint Vending placed both Virginia venues, four weeks apart and about 200 miles apart.
| Venue | Signed | Reported visitors | Share |
|---|---|---|---|
| Shenandoah, bowling alley | June 29, 2026 | 30,000 a year, 82 a day | 30% of net |
| Virginia Beach, amusement park (premium) | July 22, 2026 | 280,000 a year, 770 a day | 40% of net |
The nine-fold traffic gap came with a ten-point share difference in the busier venue’s favour — which is the opposite of Pennsylvania’s two bowling alleys, where the busier one took less. The explanation here is category rather than size: bowling alleys come out lowest across the record, with seven of eighteen below 40%.
If a Virginia venue also wants a drinks bank, that work goes to Nationwide Vending Locators, charged per location at installation.
The Virginia Beach problem is the calendar, not the number
Floss sugar is hygroscopic, and in Virginia it absorbs airborne moisture, turns sticky and slumps. An oceanfront amusement park is a difficult environment on two counts at once.
| Factor | Virginia Beach |
|---|---|
| Air | Humid Atlantic coast through a long summer |
| Season | A park’s peak is July and August — the same months |
| Shelter | Outdoor park; conditioned space is limited to indoor buildings |
| Reported traffic | 770 a day, joint 4th of 87 |
So the state’s best traffic figure arrives in the weeks when the product is hardest to keep. That is the Maryland and Louisiana problem in a more acute form, because an amusement park has less conditioned interior than an indoor playground does.
What humidity does to a cotton candy machine gives the numbers a Virginia placement is working against. The practical answer at an oceanfront park is to place inside a building — an arcade, a food hall, a party room — rather than on a midway, and to set the service interval by product age rather than by sales.
Shenandoah is the easy half. The valley sits inland and higher, and an 82-visitor-a-day bowling alley needs very little watching.
What does a Virginia placement leave the operator?
Virginia’s two shares are ten points apart, which is 62 cents a serving.
| Share | Venue takes | Operator keeps per $8 serving | Virginia venue |
|---|---|---|---|
| 30% | $1.86 | $5.16 | Shenandoah |
| 40% | $2.48 | $4.54 | Virginia Beach |
| 50% | $3.10 | $3.92 | None |
Assumptions: $8 a serving; the venue’s percentage applied to net sales, which the agreements reach by deducting $1.80 first; $0.50 for sugar, stick and topping; card processing at 5.95%, or $0.48. The monthly placement fee, insurance, travel and the machine payment sit outside the table — Virginia adds no licence fee to it.
Then weigh the volume. Virginia Beach reports more than nine times Shenandoah’s traffic on the worse share, so it is the better placement by a wide margin even before the seasonality is modelled — and the product loss on an oceanfront route is the line that closes the gap. What a cotton candy machine earns runs the annual version.
Where else would a machine sign in Virginia?
In the categories that can be measured and the metros that are missing. Virginia shows an amusement park — a type with no published visit length, so the state’s headline traffic figure cannot be converted at all — and one bowling alley.
Northern Virginia, Richmond, Norfolk and Virginia Beach itself hold the four categories Virginia lacks, which carry 44 of the 87 placements: indoor playgrounds, trampoline parks, bowling alleys and family entertainment centres. Any of them would be an easier climate than the oceanfront and a rankable listing besides.
Lead with Virginia Beach when you pitch a large venue, and expect a bowling alley to know about Shenandoah’s 30%. How to pitch a cotton candy machine covers which Virginia comparison to lead with, and cotton candy placement state by state shows how Virginia compares with the states that have listings.
Frequently asked questions
Who places cotton candy vending machines in Virginia?
PinPoint Vending, with two Virginia placements on the record: a premium amusement park in Virginia Beach signed July 22, 2026 at 40% of net, and a Shenandoah bowling alley signed June 29 at 30%.
How busy is the Virginia Beach venue?
It reports 280,000 visitors a year — about 770 a day — which is joint fourth-busiest among all 87 placements in the record.
What is the catch with it?
Two things. An oceanfront park is humid in exactly the months it is busy, and amusement parks have no published visit length, so the traffic figure cannot be converted into captive time.
What did the Shenandoah bowling alley agree?
Thirty per cent of net at 82 visitors a day. Bowling alleys come out lowest of any category across this record, with seven of eighteen below 40%.
What does a Virginia machine cost to licence?
There is no vending licence. The vending step in Virginia is the dealer tax registration rather than a permit, so there is no annual licence fee to budget.
